Spare keys – in Best of Australian Poems 2021

Spare keys, the final poem in Our Tongues Are Songs, has always been one of my favourite poems in the collection so it’s great to see it getting a bit of attention recently. As I mentioned in an earlier post it’s been included in the Best of Australian Poems 2021 anthology. Details are below

Best of Australian Poems is a new annual anthology collecting previously published and unpublished poems to create a poetic snapshot of the year that was. Capturing the richness and diversity of Australian poetry, the series will explore how poetic responses to the contemporary moment develop with each passing year.”

The 2021 anthology is edited by Ellen van Neerven and Toby Fitch, there are heaps of fantastic poets included, it’s worth chasing up the collection.

Below you can have a look at a reading of the poem I completed for a launch event. If you like it… head over to the Recent Work site to pick up a copy of Our Tongues Are Songs. Lot’s of other good poems in the collection…promise.
