It’s great to be invited back to Writing NSW to run my Everyday Epic poetry workshop – it’s by far and away the most popular workshop I’ve ever created! I’ve run versions of it as part of the Queensland Poetry Festival, Newcastle Writers Festival and previously at Writing NSW. The Writers Centre at Rozelle is a fantastic place to run workshops – a great verandah, trees to lean against, space to have a bit of a wander while you’re trying to capture ideas. I’m looking forward to it. Blurb is below and there’s a link to the site with all the booking details.
This world is full of epic, otherworldly moments: clouds shifting, the hunt for new earrings, people changing car tyres. These everyday moments give poetry its texture and provide poets with an endless seam of inspiration for their writing.
In this poetry workshop, Rico Craig will guide you to sift through the seemingly mundane, searching for the experiences you can expand to epic significance. You will bring your poetic vision to bear on the ordinary and look at the way your own inclination toward the poetic can be used to expand a reader’s perception of the worlds we share in our poetry.
During the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to write and share pieces which explore the links between the everyday and the epic.
