By Mesurado River – Newcastle Poetry Prize

By Mesurado River

There’s a barricade in our city, strange camps
struck in co-opted building sites, megaphone
shrieks. I trail antiseptic through concrete
dust. We lumber, bags on our feet, like static,

This is the first stanza from my poem By Mesurado River, recently shortlisted for the 2016 Newcastle Poetry Prize. The prize anthology – The Dangar Island Garbage Boat – was launched at the award ceremony a couple of weeks ago. It’s available from the Hunter Writers Centre

I’m waiting to receive my copy, but I’m sure the anthology will be filled with unusual and adventurous work. Congratulations to the prize winners.

And a friendly reminder, as of April 2017, my first collection – BONE INK – is available here.
