We will run in Australian Poetry Anthology

My poem We will run is in the latest Australian Poetry Anthology edited by Peter Boyle and Rae White.

As usual, lots of other fantastic poems in volume 10. The two poems below from LK Holt and Kate Crowcroft have really stayed with me!

LK Holt’s Three Catullus Versions – ‘a keen flame fans out through my limbs / and each ear is a shriek inside a crystal / inside a pool, and each eye is a yoked night.’

Kate Crowcroft’s Aubade for My Unborn – ‘Like all hungry things we lie / suspended in a morning’s worth / of light’

And, here’s We will run

We will run – Rico Craig

One day I’ll tell you about this

the colour will run from my lips

and there will be fields around us

we will bathe in dew, let the sun

dry us. Whenever I stop talking

the roads return, cars break

the horizon, phones appear

in our hands. There will be glass

all around us, people staring

at their own reflections. If I stay

silent too long the crowds jostle

us and we need to bow

our heads closer, listen harder,

grab the words we almost said.

You ask, ‘Have you seen

the street signs?

Give Way

Only

Real Estate.’

I don’t know what this means. All we can

do is run, and your hair,

a mane of cheat grass,

swings.

  1. Congratulations on having your poem included in the latest Australian Poetry Anthology! 📖 It’s a beautifully evocative piece that captures the sense of fleeting moments and the desire to escape the noise of modern life. The imagery of running through fields and seeking respite from the constant rush is vivid and relatable. Thank you for sharing this snippet with me, and I’m sure it’s a wonderful addition to the anthology. If you have any more of your work or reflections on poetry to share, please feel free to do so! 🌟📜
