I’ll be running some special poetry sessions in-person at Writing NSW on October 11. They’ll be one-on-one sessions where I work closely with poets who are beginning to draw together a collection of work they would like to prepare for publication. It’s a chance for authors to discuss the general direction of a collection, how a collection might develop and deep dive into the impact of key poems in their collection.
I’ve always found the process of moving from draft works and free-floating individual poems toward a cohesive collection absolutely fascinating. Over the last few years I’ve been involved, either on the panel or as chair, in the judging of the NSW Literary Awards – so I’ve been thinking a lot about what makes a distinctive collection of poetry. I’m looking forward to sharing some of that info with poets who are interested in having a fresh set of eyes on a work in progress.
